To make it easier for Hillcrest Cluster residents, the cluster Board has adopted, and had approved by RA, some standard exterior covenants for our properties. Please note that some standards apply to ALL sections of Hillcrest Cluster (i.e., Bridges, Bryan Courts, Fairfield, and Hillcrest) and other standards are section-specific.
Section-specific standards can be downloaded below. Your first step is to identify which section of Hillcrest Cluster your house is in (i.e., Bridges, Bryan Courts, Hillcrest, or Fairfield) using the map to the right or download for a closer look (Map).
All other exterior changes not specified in your section-specific documents are subject to HCA and RA approval. This includes: permanent artwork, attic ventilators, flags, privacy screens, play equipment, skylights, spas and hot tubs.
Before making any change in the exterior of your property not included in your section-specific documentation, you must obtain approval from the Hillcrest Cluster Association (HCA) and the Reston Association Design Review Board (RA/DRB). The next major section of this Handbook discusses HCA and RA/DRB the approval process and procedures in more detail.
When in doubt, ALWAYS check with the Hillcrest Cluster Association Board and Reston Association before making any exterior changes to your property.
Exterior Paint Colors
The approved color palette for exterior siding is below for quick reference. This is consistent across all sections of the neighborhood, though detailed requirements for trim are identified in each section specific standards document. Before painting your home, please ensure you follow these standards. No two adjacent homes may be painted the same color from the palette.

Two additional colors which are used throughout the cluster are Saffold Beige and Oxford Brown. Saffold Beige is used for firewalls (in the Bridges Section) and roof cap flashing throughout the cluster. Oxford Brown is used on trim and wood details.
Both of these are custom mixed colors, which was first established from the Sherwin Williams in Herndon along Elden Road. While the original color is no longer commercially coded with a name by Sherwin Williams, the mixing codes are below so that you may order this paint from any paint provider. While the colored rectangles below are just for reference, but are not exact color matched. Please use the mixing codes to get an accurate color from the store.
